Overview - small business optimism
Article Abstract:
The Index of Small Business Optimism fell from 102.9 in Jan. 1995 to 102.7 in Feb. 1995. Although insignificant, the decline reflected that hiring, capital spending and inventory was high in February. The net percentage of business owners who expect the industry to improve declined from 14% to 0%, while the number of owners who are planning to expand fell from 19%-16% because of fear of another economic depression. Meanwhile, borrowing activity rose by 40%, with 37% of the loaners paying higher interest rates than their previous loans. Analysts predict that the high interest will have an impact on future borrowing activity.

Overview - small business optimism
Article Abstract:
Economic indicators point to a 2.5% growth in GDP in 1995. However, lower profits and weaker capital spending may slow down the GDP's growth rate. Despite the increase in GDP, factors such as slower job growth, declining seasonally-adjusted sales, supply constraints and lower consumer spending point to a slowing down of the economy. More people see further economic improvement as becoming more elusive in light of recent economic data.
