PC Hardware
Article Abstract:
Rising incomes are a positive driver for the purchase of a PC for home use, although some consumers may be dissuaded from the purchase due to fears over obsolescence and the millennium bug. There has been exceptional volume and value growth in the consumer market for PCs in the UK, with an estimated 1.75 million units sold in 1998. Intel continues to represent around three quarters of central processing units installed, but other manufacturers are increasing their share. The industry needs to widen its consumer base, as retail prices continue to fall.
