Saudi Arabia outlines goals of Seventh Development Plan

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Planning has released a statement that explains the policies contained in the country's Seventh Development Plan. The Plan, which covers the years 2000 to 2004, puts the kingdom's focus on developing its human resources, projects the effects of globalization, science and technology and international volatility on foreign exchange, stock markets and the cost of basic necessities. The Plan also contains a special emphasis on the use of economic and natural resources, specifically water.

Saudi Arabia's King Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz has issued a royal decree that resulted in the establishment of the country's Supreme Economic Council. The council, which will be under the leadership of Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, is tasked with directing and coordinating Saudi Arabia's economic policy. The Supreme Economic Council's duties will also include reviewing the economic plan submitted by the Planning Ministry and the nation's policies regarding labor, trade and finance.
