Profit margins, adjustment costs and the business cycle: an application to Spanish manufacturing firms
Article Abstract:
Using a panel of Spanish manufacturing firms over the period 1990-1998, the cyclical behavior of markups is investigated. The result of the investigation suggests that, labour adjustment, costs more than double the variability of average margins.

In a study of women's professional careers in the Spanish labor market, they are found to be with fewer promotions but only 34% is owing to market discrimination.
