Reasoning in economics and psychology: why social context matters
Article Abstract:
There is a debate in both economics and psychology on the extent to which humans are capable of rationality. Neoclassical economics, for example, assumes that economic actors make rational decisions. Research in both psychology and economics points to the importance of context in experiments. There is a need for economists to carry out more research on context and content. Economists should reassess the practice of using content-free or abstract settings for their experiments.
