The president of Spanish meat giant Campofrio, Mr. Ballve, claims that once completed the purchase of its Spanish rivals Omsa and Navidul the company will not implement new acquisitions in Spain, opting for internal growth. The aim is to reach a market share of 30% from current 22%, improving both turnover and profitability. Overseas business is expected to increase its importance in total turnover (from nearly 50% at present). Main foreign presence for the company is in Russia, Argentina, Philippines, Romania, Poland, Portugal and France. In the case of Russia, short term outlook is good, and Campofrio could even consider new acquisitions if situation of the country confirms it is improving.

SPAIN: RESULTS OF MADERAS JOSE SAIZ
Article Abstract:
In 1999, Spanish wood processing company Maderas Jose Saiz rose turnover 70% on 1998 to Pta 2,145mn. Production amounted to 127,000 Tm (+90,000 Tm), which were mainly addressed to construction sector (60%), carpentry (20%) and packaging sectors (20%). The company bases its recent success in proper handling and control of wood exploitation, distribution and transformation through software and scanner systems. Maderas Jose Saiz aims to invest in the development of an electricity power station.
