Saudi insurance market: possible reorganization
Article Abstract:
A report of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service in Riyadh states that the insurance market in Saudi Arabia offers potential for the existing companies and new ventures. The industry is in the process of reorganization with the 130 insurance companies waiting for the decision of the Saudi Council of Ministers about the registration and licensing of insurance companies. The reorganization is expected to have a positive impact. The industry's lack of regulation makes it difficult to specify the size of the market, but in terms of collected premiums it is said to be the biggest in the region.

Moving into the digital future: the Saudi market for data communications equipment
Article Abstract:
Digital communications equipment companies are likely to find many opportunities for sales in Saudi Arabia, which is modernizing its telecommunications. Saudi purchases of data communications equipment went from $29 million in 1990 to $37.5 million in 1992 and are forecast to rise 11-13% yearly in 1993-96. The Ministry of Post, Telegraphs and Telephones and its operating arm, Saudi Telecom, control the awarding of contracts, most of which have gone to US firms. Saudis prefer the most up-to-date technology. Personal contacts are important to marketing in Saudi Arabia.
