Slicing the federal government's net spending pie: who wins, who loses, and why
Article Abstract:
The distribution of the federal government's net spending for all 50 states from 1972 to 1990 was examined. Misrepresentation in spending occurs because while representation in the House is based on population, representation in the Senate is not, resulting in disparities in per capita spending allocations. It was concluded that states with comparatively low populations are overrepresented in the Senate because they have higher per capital federal net spending allocations.

Government debt, government spending, and private-sector behavior: reply
Article Abstract:
Fred Graham's challenge to the consolidated approach to the examination of consumer behavior is flawed. He based his finding on an incorrect measure of labor income and the taxes thereon. Moreover, his results are found to be not robust to an alternative, more acceptable measure. Lastly, his results are not representative of those attained over a massive group of alternative specifications. Therefore, the consolidated approach is an effective method.

Imperfect competition and basing-point pricing: evidence from the softwood plywood industry
Article Abstract:
The effects of the elimination of basing-point pricing by the Federal Trade Commission in the softwood plywood industry in the mid-1970s were studied. Basing-point pricing refers to the process by which geographically dispersed companies use a common site as the basis for determining costs and prices. The research indicated that the delivered prices of base-site items were not affected, but the delivered prices of non-base-site items declined.
