Social security privatization: a structure for analysis
Article Abstract:
The debate regarding the privatization of the US Social Security system has raised various issues. These include the potential effects of privatization on household risks, its distributive consequences and possible changes in household behavior. Macroeconomic issues include underfunding, effects on national saving and the rates-of-return of Social Security beneficiaries. A privatized system offers better work incentives and reduced political risks. However, administrative costs may increase.

How are participants investing their accounts in participant-directed individual retirement account pension plans?
Article Abstract:
Data from the 1992 Longitudinal Survey of Mature Women was employed to assess gender differences in investment choices and determinants of asset choice of investors in defined contribution plans. Results disproved existing notions that women avoid potentially risky ventures such as the stock market and showed that they invest more in stocks when given the alternative. Gender also does not seem to influence investment patterns in the older group of respondents.
