The effect of interstate banking on large bank holding company profitability and risk
Article Abstract:
A model using a recursive system of profit and risk equations showed that bank holding companies gain higher profitability and are exposed to less risk by operating on an interstate basis. Interstate bank holding companies have higher return on investments with low volatility and insolvency risks. This is assumed to come from the avoidance of the duplication of procedures and from access to quality assets and opportunities for asset diversification.
