The electoral politics of extreme policies
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the relationship between extremism and political opposition using a model that considers how a current government plans to constrain future governments. The model also supports the incumbent that establishes a cost to voters of changing power. Results indicated that political parties cannot credibly promote future policy before elections. Findings also showed that changes in policies promote huge fixed costs on both parties and voters.
