The labor market for new Ph.D. economists
Article Abstract:
Many doctoral economists are employed in industry or business since the labor market for goverment or academic economists is weak. Private sector employment may not use these economists ' skills. Programs have not evolved for those who plan to work in the private sector, and this may be because Ph.D. students may not expect to work in the private sector. The numbers of Ph.D. graduates may drop, as fewer students start courses. Meanwhile, an increasing proportion of Ph.D. graduates have come from abroad, and many new Ph.D. graduates find work abroad.
