The law and economics of the economic expert witness
Article Abstract:
Economic expert witnesses have been called to offer evidence in courts. Critics argue that expert witnesses could mislead judges since it is more difficult to cross examine an expert, though an academic's concern with professional reputation may encourage honesty, especially where the witness has published academic articles. There are problems in areas where professional consensus has not been achieved, and there may also be problems if work as an expert witness undermines the economist's work as an academic.
