The state of the military-industrial complex in Russia
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the condition of the post-Soviet military-industrial complex, providing a brief summary of the historical Soviet-era defense industry, its relative economic isolation and efforts at conversion from USSR methods of operation and production, including the poor commercial policy of the early 1990s. Issues include the difficulties in measuring Soviet era defense spending because of its close relations to the production to civilian products, what remains of the defense industrial complex since it was dismantled in 1997, and the lack of transparency in military spending.
