What can we expect from community-based lending for the district of Columbia
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the potential of a community-based lending institution to be a successful conduit of financial investment in distressed communities in the District of Columbia. Potential challenges and possible advantages of community-based banks such as City First Bank of DC were examined. Results indicated that City First Bank of DC will be distinguished by its target market and expert staff. Its corporate structure is forecast to mirror the racial and economic composition of the communities that it serves.

The international transmission of financial shocks: the case of Japan
Article Abstract:
The fall in Japanese stock prices affected the US market significantly due to the binding of risk-based capital requirements to lending activities of Japanese banks in the US. The study also reveals that the transmission of stock market declines may be done through the lending responses of foreign branches of Japanese banks. The decline in lending activities ultimately led to the decline in lending supply in the US as one-fifth of all US lending requirements depended on Japanese banks operating in the US.
