Tony Blair's plan to reach a goal of 50% of all British high school graduates attending college by 2010 must surmount many barriers. Many working class families are reluctant to take on the debt of student loans and not many working class students take A levels. Non-repayable grants may encourage working class students.

Bristol: A tale of two cities
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the city of Bristol, UK, and the differing educational prospects faced by those from different parts of the city. Children from the west of Bristol, gave a 50% chance of going on to university while only one in 10 children from the Bristol South region are likely to enter higher education.

Article Abstract:
Future admission procedures to higher education are predicted, with a fairer system that eliminates the advantages of background and private education. Fees are still a problem, but college courses have been adapted more to students' needs.
