A vision for the 21st century
Article Abstract:
A framework is needed for the expansion of higher education in the United Kingdom, and factors which should be taken into account include recognition of the benefits of education, while accepting budgetary constraints. There is also acceptance for a common curriculum for schoolchildren up to the age of 16. Access to information on courses should be made freely available, and there should be a national system of accreditation which is itself monitored. Other areas which should be tackled include greater control of research education, and the issue of graduate education involves a degree of specialization.

He has selected academic advisers to help him formulate social policies. In the UK some writers are calling for a similar commitment by academics to study the effects of market policy and privatisation on the British way of life.
