Anti-racist myth scotched
Article Abstract:
Italian universities implemented Mussolini's Race Laws of 1938, sacking Jews from permanent jobs, and failing to renew contracts of Jews in temporary jobs. Italian academics were happy to take these vacated posts, with only one refusal, according to Angelo Ventura and Roberto Finzi, historians. The Jewish academics who lost their jobs often emigrated and enriched universities elsewhere. They were not offered their old jobs after the war.
