Article Abstract:
British higher education experts have been giving advice to their Italian counterparts on the evaluation of research, and funding in particular, at an informal seminar organised by the British Council in Rome, Italy. Italian delegate Fabio Pistella, counsellor to the university and research minister, found the conference very useful, explaining that Italy hopes to avoid some of the initial errors highlighted by the British. He added that evaluation mechanisms must be well thought out and introduced carefully and gradually.
