Can this man go where no physicist has gone before?
Article Abstract:
Cosmologist Lee Smolin admits that turning to biology for inspiration in his search for a so-called theory of everything seemed to be a desperate step, but he maintains that physics is suffering a kind of crisis. Cosmological natural election, the Darwinian view of cosmology that Smolin has developed, acknowledges that the laws of physics may have been shaped by events during the history of the universe. It breaks with Newton's vision of a world governed by universal, unchanging laws and the Platonic notion that there is a permanent, transcendent reality at the root of things.
