V-cs impede colleges' for extra cash
Article Abstract:
The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) is being castigated by further education colleges for not comprehending how funding for the colleges is organised. Some college principals claim they are not prepared to charge higher tuition fees. A number of observers suggest the HEFCE is unprepared to alter the way funding is allocated in order to suit the needs of university vice chancellors. Colleges will not be able to compete fairly, for the extra 36,000 students anticipated in the year 2000, if they do not have sufficient funding.
