Former Umist staff may strike
Article Abstract:
Academic support and technical staff at Manchester University are preparing to hold a strike ballot later in January 2006. The threat of industrial action is the result of claims that some staff have been overlooked for promotion and others have been unfairly "downgraded" following the merger of Manchester Victoria University (MVU) and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology to form the new institution, with the majority of senior posts at the new university being earmarked for former MVU staff.
