French to open elite to the poor
Article Abstract:
The French Government and Prime Minister Jacques Chirac have promised to increase the opportunities available to bright children living in deprived areas to go to university. The moves to widen access of poor students to the grandes ecoles follows the riots by disaffected young people that engulfed estates around the country in November 2005.

French told to improve advice
Article Abstract:
Young people in France need better and earlier guidance to help them select the university course which best suits them, according to a report from prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. The report has called on universities to 'professionalise' their programmes to make them more relevant to the needs of companies.
