Godmum to 14,000 growing children
Article Abstract:
The Avon Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood (Alspac), the brainchild of Professor Jean Golding, an epidemiologist at Bristol University's institute of child health, is a huge undertaking. Alspac involves recording as much data as possible about the lives, environment and health of all 14,000 children born in Avon, England, between Apr. 1991 and Dec. 1992 with the aim of discovering why some children thrive mentally and physically while others do not. However funding is a constant problem since Alspac now costs 2 million pounds sterling/yr. to run.
