Article Abstract:
An analysis of a survey into the characteristics and traits of university vice-chancellors in the UK. The survey revealed that the typical vice-chancellor is male, possibly foreign, likely to have spent time in industry, hold a science or other numerate degree and preferably a doctorate, and while a background including Oxford or Cambridge is not necessary, it is not uncommon.
