Looking for a slice of the American pie
Article Abstract:
Former professor of biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Jaleh Dale explains that the life sciences currently offer the greatest opportunities for British academics wanting to work in the US. Salaries for university academics are far higher in the US than in the UK but a British physicist now working in the US points out that university academics are traditionally paid for only nine months of the year. He also points out that competition in US academia is cut-throat. Nevertheless, he has no regrets about leaving a prestigious institution in the UK for a post in US academia.
