Mirror of the world's workings
Article Abstract:
Theory turns information into knowledge and is crucial to both description and explanation in social anthropology, but information dissemination technologies are actually narrowing down what is to count as theory. The overabundance of information to which technology provides easy access undermines the practice of knowledge. Information needs to be reduced and deleted to create knowledge. Critical anthropology, which draws on Marxism and post-structuralist philosophy as well as literary theory is one of the liveliest ways in which critical theory has been absorbed into anthropology.
