'There is no reason why a city couldn't be committed to its university in ways that go beyond welcoming students for the money they spend on rents'
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the role of civic universities in the UK. It is suggested that if civic universities want to stop losing out in university league tables, then what is needed is for the cities in which they are based to re-establish genuine, individual city identities. Unfortunately, for this to happen government would have to cede power back to local government and in the current environment this is not likely to happen.
