US George Mason University Institute of Public Policy Professor Francis Fukuyama has been criticised for his positive views on the state of American society. He suggests democratic politics and the free market has improved the situation for all of society, including the poor. In his new book, 'The Great Disruption: Human Nature and the Reconstitution of Social Order', Fukuyama looks a family life and the parental roles. He has suggested a liberal democracy is necessary for technological societies to operate.

Academics have been participating in increasing numbers in international summer education conferences that take place in locations all over Europe. These conferences can give academics the opportunity to showcase their work to academics from other countries, and to be exposed to new ideas.
