Rescuer's central role and rewards under fire
Article Abstract:
The Charity Commission, the charity watchdog, is investigating millions of pounds worth of payments made by Regent's College and its sister educational charity, the European Business School, to businesses run by Gillian Payne, the woman who helped rescue both charities from financial disaster in the 1990s and who has effectively run both operations ever since. The Charity Commission has confirmed that it is investigating both charities under the terms of the 1993 Charities Act but would not reveal details of the investigation, however lawyers acting for both charities have confirmed that the investigation "concerns the relations between the charities and Gillian Payne".
