The bad language carriers
Article Abstract:
Charles Darwin saw language as instinctive, and saw children as having a universal grammar which they adapted to different languages. Myrna Gopnik is a researcher at Canada's McGill University who believes she has discovered a gene which affects people's ability to use grammar. She has studies a family with language problems but there is a debate as to whether their difficulties are due to a language gene. Other defects such as coordination could be linked to their language problems.

Sultans of swing
Article Abstract:
Michael Thrasher and Colin Railings are two UK political scientists who are likely to make frequent appearances on TV in the UK in the next general election. They began their work in 1984 and compiled local government election results to analyse changes. They developed links with the Sunday Times newspaper and started to appear on television in the later 1980s. They argue that their methods of analysing data is more accurate than opinion polls.
