South secures research cash
Article Abstract:
Supporters of England's northern universities in February 2007 criticized health chiefs for diverting more biomedical research funding into institutions in the South to the detriment of medical science and patient care in the North. The northern institutions claimed that all the universities chosen as England's comprehensive biomedical research centers of excellence are in the "golden triangle" of Oxford, Cambridge and London, a situation that will perpetuate the funding inequality also present in the National Health Services.
