Closing the gap: SREB program blends academic standards, vocational courses
Article Abstract:
The Southern Regional Education Board has developed an educational program which integrates higher-level academic courses with vocational studies. 'High Schools That Work' aims to increase the academic achievement of vocational students and at the same time enable them to apply their academic and vocational mastery to deal with real-life situations. Schools should urge their faculty members to explore the potentials of vocational students and involve both students and their parents in the planning of the academic program. Feedback from participating high schools show the program's success.
