The ''academic literacies'' model: Theory and Applications
Article Abstract:
Three models are proposed to guide educators with regard to writing and other literacy practices in educational contexts, which include skills model, an academic socialization model and an academic literacies model. From the student point of view, a dominant feature of academic literacy practices is the requirement to switch their writing styles and genres between one setting and another to deploy a repertoire of literacy practices appropriate to each setting and to handle the social meanings and identities that each evokes.

Becoming literate in a school language: Connecting home, community, and school literacy practices
Article Abstract:
The recognition of the literacy practices that students develop outside the school helps the school-age English language learners (ELLs) to develop the literacy competencies required for the success at school. The concept of multiple literacies provides an analytic heuristic with which to consider the range of literacy practices in which ELLs engage across contexts in different languages and various modalities.
