Giving history a helping hand
Article Abstract:
The house of the settler, Joseph Bown, which was bought by the Boise Independent School District in 1992, has been restored, and will be used to teach history. The house was a part of the land bought to construct the Riverside Elementary School. It has been restored with the help of the Idaho Historic Preservation Council, and local Job Corps students. The rooms of the house exhibit different settings of the late 1800s. The house is an integral part of the fourth grade curriculum, and will be officially inaugurated on May 11, Bown Day.

Short-term training: long-term solution?
Article Abstract:
The shortage of money in the postsecondary education system of New Hampshire has forced the restructuring of the technical colleges and the creation of a new partnership with businesses. A Training Challenge Grant Program to promote business and to enhance the skills of the workforce through Technology Development Centers (TDCs) provides matching grants for companies wanting the colleges to provide on job training. At least 100 businesses in the state are obtaining training for employees through the TDCs.
