Article Abstract:
The German population of Britain faced great hostility during and after the First World War. Many thousands were interned and others had their businesses closed forcibly or were sent back to Germany. Demobilised black sailors during the same period and Jews in 1947 were amongst those who experienced racism from the mainstream British population.

The number of social work students has been decreasing, observers suggest poor working conditions, insufficient pay and changes in how students are funded have helped to cause the decline.
