Time bandits make real gains in virtual space
Article Abstract:
Virtual reality (VR) technology has matured so much in the past three years that it has become totally feasible to consider using it as an educational support tool. Serious applications are beginning to emerge and students will be able to remotely access a range of virtual laboratories before too long. The use of virtual laboratories to supplement the real laboratory offers a number of benefits. The time students spend in the real laboratory should be more effective if they have previously used the VR system to familiarise themselves with key concepts.

Cash for much less flash
Article Abstract:
Fluorescent lights, flickering computer screens and blinking cursors can pose a serious health hazard for students suffering from photosensitive epilepsy, with seizures potentially triggered by flickering at 60Hz. Students are unlikely to benefit from darkened computer rooms and screen flicker is not prevented by screen filters. Students should seek to use a computer with a liquid crystal screen in an appropriately lit area, with students able to apply for a special equipment allowance to buy their own non-flickering laptop computer.
