Unwanted oldies
Article Abstract:
Employers seeking graduate recruits are biased against mature graduates from new universities, according to a survey of over 2,000 graduates by Warwick University's Institute of Employment Research. Graduates aged 40 to 49 were highly disappointed with their career development. Nearly 10% of graduates surveyed aged 40 to 49 were unemployed, while under 25% of this age group were in career-related employment. Over 50% of those aged 20-29 entered career-related employment. Mature graduates from new universities had lower earnings potential than young graduates from traditional universities.

The gift of blind faith
Article Abstract:
Birmingham University, England, theologian John Hull admits that he had not prepared himself for being blind, despite having lost his left eye at the age of 17 and experiencing a steady deterioration of vision in his right eye. He became blind in 1980 but did not give way to despair until 1983 when he had largely solved the practical problems involved. He published an account of being blind, 'Touching the Rock,' in 1990. Hull explains that his realisation that the state of blindness and the experience of losing sight are separate led him to write a new book, to be published in Aug. 1997.
