Valid students denied UK entry
Article Abstract:
Vice-chancellors at universities in the UK have warned of potentially devastating damage being done to the country's UKPd10 billion overseas student market after information was released which revealed that up to 20% of legitimate international students at the University of Central England had been refused entry to Britain in order to take up their places. Senior figures within the academic sector claim that the Home Office's entry clearance officers are often guilty of arbitrary decision making and this could have a significant impact on the finances of universities.

Backlash may put boycott in jeopardy
Article Abstract:
A boycott of academics from Haifa and Bar Ilan universities in Israel organised by the Association of University Teachers could be abandoned before it has had a chance to have any significant impact. Anti-boycott campaigners have invoked an obscure union rule to call a special council that could reverse the boycott. The move to end the boycott comes as the international backlash against the boycott has grown and calls have been made by some prominent Jewish scholars for a tit-for-tat boycott of UK academics.

The postgrad cashpot
Article Abstract:
University managers believe that the "greatest revenue potential in the future" for universities lies in the recruitment of postgraduate students, according to a survey conducted by the Euro RSCG Riley strategic consulting group. Only 20% of managers believe that existing degree programmes would be the greatest future source of income, while 57% believed it would be postgraduates, marking a possible shift in teaching priorities across the sector.
