Article Abstract:
The vice-chancellor of Bristol University argues that the university's policy of trying to widen participation has been proved effective, despite the criticism that it has attracted over the years. It is contended that evidence shows that the policy has not resulted in any dumbing down at the university and instead should be seen as having had an enriching effect.
