Advanced imaging technologies find aircraft flaws
Article Abstract:
The Air Force's Non Destructive Inspection Facility (NDIF), located at McClellan AFB, represents the Air Force's attempt to tie its many aircraft inspection techniques together at a single location. Imaging processes used at the facility include neutron radiography, real-time X-ray radiography and ultrasonic scanning. Neutron radiography can uncover the existence of hydrogen, which indicates corrosion, in aircraft components.

Q-70: redefining commercial off-the-shelf for the U.S. Navy
Article Abstract:
The US Navy has accepted the use of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) computing products for its information systems. The Navy's contract with Loral Defense Systems Eagan for the AN/UYQ-70 next-generation tactical workstation demonstrates this acceptance. The Q-70, which incorporates the best available COTS components, may be the most open and flexible product Loral has produced. The workstation is described.
