Manufacturers like Sony, Panasonic and Samsung rolled out their latest digital tuners and monitors at the National Cable and Telecommunications AssociationEs annual convention in New Orleans. The wait and watch attitude of the cable giants who are not buying new products even from their main suppliers like Motorola and Scientific Atlanta and content suppliers like ABC/Disney, MTV/Viacom and NBC Universal is a cause for concern.

The promotional campaigns run by cable companies are ambiguous and hampers the relationship between CE retailers and cable companies. Customers, unaware of the differences between HDTV and digital TV, might be reluctant to pay the extra sum for HDTV packages. Collaboration between carriers and CE companies would create a win-win situation for the two.
