New lines of camcorder tapes are introduced by media manufacturers into the market. TDK Corp. has launched its reformulated and repackaged line of camcorder tapes that include Hi8, 8mm, S-VHS-C, VHS-C and DVM, while Maxell introduced its new line of camcorder tape value packs of two camcorder tapes with a battery. Other new products are Memorex's T200 video tape and Fujifilm's 1999 line of PRO high-grade VHS tapes.

Memory card makers have launched their latest product lines. Lexar Media introduced its 32MB SmartMedia card, a 128MB CompactFlash card and a 320MB PC which boast of a 1.28MB/second sustained write speed. Sandisk has launched its line of Type II CompactFlash cards including the 160MB card. Other new entries are PNY's SmartMedia cards in 8, 16 and 32MB sizes, and Sony's Memory Stick memory cards.
