DVD player sales roll onward, upward

Sharp Corp expects the sale of DVD players in FY2000 to reach 10.24 million units, an increase of 67% compared to the previous year. The company's other forecasts for FY2000 include a 40.6% improvement to 4.5 million units in mobile information terminals and a 37.9% increase to 400 million units for mobile phones and related equipment. Sharp is alsoa predicting a 36.8% surge to 1.09 million units in the sale of LCD projectors as well as a 30.6% jump to 14.5 million units in the sale of MiniDiscs.

CD receiver sales lead Pioneer to triumphant year in North America

Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc reported another successful year of operations in the North American continent for FY1999. The performance, which include a significant increase in market share, is attributed primarily to the above average sales in the automobile audio equipment sector. Pioneer, which has over 20 subsidiaries in the region and an employee base of over 3,500, reported that over 40% of its total revenues came from car entertainment electronics.

Realistic sound system lure Japanese to home theater market

Home theater systems are rapidly gaining acceptance in Japan. A major contributor to this trend is the significant improvement in home theater sound system products, such as audio/video amplifiers and speaker systems, that can deliver excellent surround effects.
