Camcorders hit new highs, lows

New models of digital cameras and camcorders are introduced by manufacturers into the market. Canon has launched its Elura digital camcorder with a 12x optical zoom and a progressive scan digital motor drive mode. Victor Company of Japan Ltd. introduced the GR-DVM70 and GR-DVM50 digital camcorders, while Sony offered its TRV8 miniDV digital camcorders. Other new models are Samsung's SV-D50 MiniDV camcorder, Sharp's VLPD3U digital camcorder and Panasonic's PV-L759 and PV-L859 PhotoShot digital camcorder/still cameras.

Affordable appliances for dorm living

Students, especially those living in dormitory rooms, can choose from a wide array of affordable and compact home appliances. GE Appliances is marketing Mike, a compact microwave oven that features a 0.3-cubic-foot cooking capacity. Samsung has the Junior microwave oven that weighs only 20 pounds and yet offers a 0.3-cubic-foot cooking cavity. Danby is setting its sights on the college market with its Special Edition of compact refrigerators.
