Matsushita molds projects for single European market

Japan-based Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd has steadily reorganized its European operations to better accommodate the emerging single European market. It hopes to complete its restructuring by Jul 2002. The company's European business is substantial and accounts for roughly 1 trillion yen in annual sales, or 13% of its consolidated corporate sales. Europe-based Matsushita group companies started using the euro currency unit in accounting in the beginning of FY 1999, while Panasoni Deutschland GmbH was split into four units.

Sony aims to spearhead overall expansion of MD audio market
Article Abstract:
Sony Corp, the pioneer in MiniDisc (MD) audio equipment, plans to expand its MD markets outside Japan. The company, which predicts 1999 demand of MD products outside Japan to reach 5.4 million units, sold 1 million units in Europe in 1998 and targeting 500,000 units in the US for 1999. To boosts MD equipment sales in overseas markets, Sony has established and expanded its MD Task Force System in various locations around the world and added new MD products.
