Matsushita puts DVC trends in focus, eyes year-end sales battle

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co is concentrating on boosting sales initiatives for its Digital Videocassette (DVC) camcorders as it prepares for the 1998 year-end sales season. The company is slated to launch three DVC models in the worldwide market in autumn-1998, including the DS787 with multiple-screen functions; the Digital Ace DA1 with multimedia capabilities; and the NVEX1 with 100x digital zoom. Matsushita plans to reduce DVC camcorder prices to between $1,500 and less than $1,000 in the US market, in order to cultivate user interest.

Large-screen TVs, projection TVs form core of Hitachi's European strategy
Article Abstract:
Japan-based Hitachi Ltd has opted to step up the marketing activities in Europe of its large-screen televisions, LC projection TVs and products using digital video discs (DVDs). As part of this effort, the company launched its 32- and 28-inch wide-screen TVS in the UK that incorporate decoders for terrestrial digital broadcasts and feature Hitachi's 3DS sound technology. Within FY 1999, the company plans to introduce a decoder that will permit the reception of pay-per-channel broadcasts.
