Matsushita re-titles top executives, tags 7 key business areas
Article Abstract:
Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd will make changes at the top executive level and its board during its annual meeting in Jun 2000. Yoichi Morishita will move from president to chairman. Kunio Nakamura, the company's senior managing director, will replace Morishita as president. Masaharu Matsushita will shred his title as chairman of the board of directors and become honorary chairman and executive advisor. The company also identified seven business areas it will be targeting for growth in 2000.

Japanese makers resume overseas manufacturing push
Article Abstract:
Japanese manufacturers are accelerating the shift outside Japan for production of consumer electronic appliances. The overseas production rate for most main products, such as color TVs, stereo sets, VCRs and car stereos, is over 50%. Even with a shift of production outside Japan, production in the country is increasing, which stems from increased production of such products as digital TVs, car navigation systems, digital cameras and LCD TVs.

Sanyo looks to sun for 'mega solar' power
Article Abstract:
Sanyo Electric Co has initially allotted 6 billion yen for the construction of Mega Solar power-generation system at the Gifu plant in Japan. The Japanese consumer electronic manufacturer expects to generate about 3,700MWh annually form the system, which consists of a 1mW solar arc and a 1.8MW solar wave. Construction of the system will start on Feb 2001 and is expected to be completed by 2004.
