Media giant, electronics goliath tackle joint role as movie producer

Toshiba Corp. has secured an agreement with Nippon Television Network Corp. (NTV), to form a joint-venture movie and TV production/distribution company called Towani Corp. The new company, which will be backed by a paid-in capital of Y300 million, intends to produce one to two movies annually starting year 2000, for both Japanese and worldwide markets. Towani Corp., which will also conduct TV productions, is owned 33.3% each by Nippon Television and Warner Brothers, while Toshiba Corp. owns 23.3% and Time Warner Entertainment Japan holds a 10% ownership share.

Minolta targets 7% annual gain in latest 5-year plan
Article Abstract:
Minolta Company Ltd of Japan is implementing a five-year plan in FY 1999 that is designed to generate 7% to 8% gain annually and to consolidate sales of 800 billion yen by FY 2003. Under the plan, called 'New Excellent 2003,' the company will reinforce its core competencies in optical and imaging technologies, strengthen its international marketing system, and expand its existing lines for industrial equipment and systems.
