Ni-MH batteries on fast track to overtake Ni-Cd batteries
Article Abstract:
Sales of nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries in Japan are predicted to level with or even surpass sales of nickel-cadmium (Ni-CD) batteries in the near future. In Aug 1998, shipments of Ni-MH batteries by Japanese manufacturers have exceeded shipments of Ni-CD batteries for the first time, but dropped backed a month after. The larger electric capacities of Ni-MH batteries compared to Ni-CD batteries and the increase in the number of suppliers of Ni-MH batteries are among the main reasons why this type of rechargeable battery is gaining wide acceptance in Japan.
